Porsche Taycan Turbo GT New Lap Record

Porsche has a penchant for lap records, whether at renowned tracks like Nürburgring in Germany or Laguna Seca in California. This time, however, the record-breaking feat wasn’t just for show.

Seeking to showcase its Taycan electric sedan’s prowess, Porsche took the Turbo GT and Turbo GT with Weissach package to Weathertech Raceway in Laguna Seca to challenge the existing record set by a Tesla Model S Plaid. Unsurprisingly, they succeeded.

Clocking in at one minute, 27.87 seconds, Porsche development driver Lars Kern effortlessly surpassed the previous record of one minute, 30.3 seconds. The impressive performance is credited to the new Turbo GT model’s capabilities, achieving 0-60mph in 2.1 seconds with a top speed of 190mph. The Weissach package, which shaves off 157 pounds by removing rear seats, further contributed to the victory.

Other Race Court Records Smashed

Setting the new record on February 23rd, Kern didn’t stop there. Just days later, he conquered the iconic Nürburgring race course with a lap time of 7:07.55 minutes, besting the Model S Plaid’s time of 7:25.231.

The Taycan Turbo GT Models Performance Enhancements

Beyond mere bragging rights, the Taycan Turbo GT models offer substantial performance enhancements. Both variants boast a range of around 340 miles and a continuous 777 horsepower output.

With a launch control start, peak power output reaches a staggering 1,019 horsepower. Utilizing the same 96.0kWh batteries and two-speed gearbox as the Turbo S, modifications enable support for up to 988 pound-feet of torque.

The Turbo GT Isn’t Solely For Record-Breaking Endeavors

However, the Turbo GT isn’t solely for record-breaking endeavors; it’s also tailored for enthusiasts seeking top-notch track performance. Orders for the Turbo GT, with or without the Weissach package, are open now, starting at $231,995. As expected, excellence comes at a price.
