The National Press Foundation will present three $4,000 Economic Justice Journalism Awards to recognize outstanding reporting on economic inequality and its impact on U.S. families across various mediums.

These awards are designated for work in the following categories:

  • Stories published or aired by any news outlet
  • Stories published or aired by news outlets with a newsroom of 150 or fewer journalists
  • Stories published or aired by news outlets with a newsroom of 50 or fewer journalists, or by freelance, unemployed, or furloughed journalists.

This award is associated with briefings for journalists who participated in the Future of the American Child Reporting Fellowships in 2023 and 2024. Detailed summaries, transcripts, and videos of these briefings can be accessed in NPF’s Children & Families and Poverty and Inequality resource areas.

Grant

  • Three $4,000 prizes are awarded for work that has been published by journalists.

Eligibility criteria

  • Open to journalists located in the U.S.
  • They should have written and published stories in any of the specified categories mentioned above.
