Possible topics for consideration include self-determination for Ukraine, shifts in global and regional power dynamics, the impact of the conflict on the lives of Ukrainians and Russians, the evolving governance structures in both countries, the potential influence of the war on post-war prospects for working people in Ukraine and Russia, as well as the conditions for a just peace between Russia and Ukraine.
Daniel Singer, an idealistic socialist known for his courageous commitment to accurate reporting, was revered for his descriptive, analytical, and elegant journalism. These are the qualities that The Daniel Singer Foundation seeks to celebrate through the Daniel Singer Millennium Prize.
Award
- The winner will receive a cash prize of $10,000. The recipient will be notified in June 2024 and honored at a public event and panel discussion hosted by the Singer Prize Foundation in the autumn of 2024.
Eligibility Criteria
- The essays must have been published in English after the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
- Authors, editors, readers, or publishers are all eligible to submit essays.
- Submissions must not be more than 8,000 words in length.
How to Submit Application For the Daniel Singer Prize 2024
- Submissions that are received after the deadline will not be taken into account.
- Submissions should contain a brief statement (maximum 500 words) justifying why the piece deserves to win the prize and a link to the published essay.
- Each participant is permitted to submit not more than once. If a submission has been co-authored, it can only be submitted with the full agreement of all authors, and this submission will count as the only opportunity for each coauthor to enter the contest; neither author may submit another entry independently.
