The ICANN80 NextGen@ICANN Program 2024 is accepting applications. ICANN is seeking individuals from the next generation who are passionate about actively participating in their regional communities and influencing the future of global Internet policy.
ICANN engages in significant work daily, and if you are eager to embark on this journey, participating as a NextGen@ICANN member at an ICANN Public Meeting could be your starting point.
The NextGen program offers coaching and travel support to students from the regions hosting the ICANN meeting, providing a valuable opportunity for involvement.
Financial Support
- Each participant will receive a grant covering the expenses of economy-class airfare, accommodation, and a stipend. NextGen participants are responsible for obtaining their visas at their own cost.
- Travel or health insurance, if desired, is also at the participant’s expense.
Eligibility
Participants in the NextGen@ICANN program must be:
- Enrolled as an undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral student.
- Between 18 and 30 years old at the time of the ICANN meeting.
- Currently residing and studying in the region of the respective ICANN meeting, which rotates through five geographic regions: Africa, Europe, North America, Latin America, and Asia Pacific.
- Interested in Internet Governance, the future of the Internet, and other subjects covered at ICANN meetings.
- Selected participants must be able to attend the ICANN meeting and required events, actively engaging in the sessions.
- Selected participants are expected to present a 5-10-minute project at the meeting, covering topics such as ongoing research, ICANN-related activities, affiliated websites, thesis projects, etc.
Selection Criteria
Applicants are assessed based on the following criteria:
- Demonstrated interest in ICANN and the Internet ecosystem through current work, activities, and public dialogue within their studies or web research.
- Expression of how participation in the NextGen@ICANN program would be valuable individually and as part of a broader community (e.g., university, country, region).
- Quality of expressing views on an Internet-related topic within the application.
- Demonstrated desire to become part of the ICANN community.
- A long-standing interest in topics related to ICANN’s work.
- Expression of a desire to engage and enhance understanding of ICANN’s work in their region.
