Applications are currently open for the IACC Young Journalists Initiative 2024. Transparency International seeks aspiring journalists worldwide dedicated to combating corruption and investigating issues surrounding transparency, integrity, and the exposure of corruption.
IACC Young Journalists Initiative 2024
Participants in the program will become part of the YJ Alumni network, gaining access to Journalists for Transparency—a collective of over 100 journalists and storytellers reporting on global transparency and corruption issues.
J4T offers small-to-medium scale grants to YJ alumni for collaborative investigations into specific corruption cases. The initiative aims to inspire, equip, and empower young journalists to refine their investigative skills in exposing corruption and its profound societal impacts.
Responsibilities
- Familiarize yourself with the IACC 2024 program and Transparency International’s global and national operations, as well as their strategic goals outlined in Holding Power to Account, spanning from 2021 to 2030.
- (Optional) Contribute to and promote various IACC channels, such as Twitter, Facebook, Vimeo, and others.
- (Optional) Author blog posts for the IACC blog.
- (Optional) Engage with IACC initiatives like FairPlay, Films for Transparency, and the IACC Social Entrepreneurs Initiative.
- Attend a virtual preparatory and introductory meeting on June 18th, the day before the conference, to meet relevant Transparency International staff and fellow YJs, and discuss roles and duties.
- Coordinate related coverage with the YJ editorial team.
Benefits
- Scholarships are available for young/early-career digital, print, social media, photo, or video journalists to cover the IACC 2024 conference. This includes an economy flight to Vilnius (Lithuania), five nights’ accommodation at the IACC Hotel, the conference venue, and visa processing expenses, all covered by the IACC.
Eligibility Requirements
- You must work as a journalist, with substantial experience reporting on social issues, and possess skills in one of the following areas: digital/print journalism, broadcast journalism, video production, photojournalism, or social media (specifically TikTok and Reels).
- You must have a strong commitment to fighting corruption and a desire to learn more about Transparency International, the IACC, and its focal areas.
- You must be under 35 years old as of June 21, 2024, and be proficient in English.
- All J4T/IACC YJ Alumni, regardless of age or location, are encouraged to join the reporting team.
