In line with this commitment is the prestigious Hamdan International Photography Award (HIPA), established by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum. This award demonstrates Dubai’s unwavering support for art, culture, and innovation.
HIPA 2024 Overview
The Hamdan International Photography Award, inaugurated in 2011 under the patronage of the Crown Prince of Dubai, boasts an impressive Grand Prize of USD 120,000.
This international photography award has evolved into a platform for artistic expression globally. The theme for the twelfth season, ‘Diversity,’ opens doors to boundless creativity, inviting photographers to infuse their work with meaningful, empowering, and expressive concepts.

The award’s structure encourages photographers to share their craft, demonstrating excellence in what has become one of the most coveted accolades worldwide.
Participants can submit one photograph per category, with the Portfolio category allowing for the submission of 5-10 photographs.
Benefits of the Hamdan International Photography Award
In addition to the Grand Prize, HIPA offers three special awards:
- Photography Appreciation Award: USD 20,000
- Photography Content Creator Award: USD 15,000
- Emerging Person/Organization in Photography Award: USD 10,000
These awards celebrate winners in each category and also recognize individuals and entities contributing significantly to the photography landscape.
Eligibility Requirements for HIPA 2024
- The competition is open to individuals over the age of 18 worldwide.
- Each participant can submit one photograph per relevant category, except for the Portfolio category, which permits the submission of 5-10 photographs.
- To be approved, all photos for submission must be in JPEG or JPG format.
- Photos must be in high-quality resolution of a minimum size of 5 MB.
- The minimum longest edge of 2000 pixels with a quality of no less than 300 dpi.
- Black and white photos are permitted in all categories, except for the Color subcategory under General.
- The Digital Art category allows digitally manipulated photos.
- Portfolio category requires a series of 5-10 photos on the same subject matter.
Content Guidelines
- Submitted photos must not contain any tags, signatures, initials, frames, borders, logos, or other references added by the participant.
- Basic technical editing is acceptable, provided it does not compromise the authenticity of the photo.
- Advanced editing, including compositing and creative retouching, is prohibited.
