Global Sustainability Pioneers – Zayed Sustainability Prize 2024 (Up to US $1,000,000)

The 2024 Zayed Sustainability Prize is now open! The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the United Arab Emirates, left a humanitarian and sustainable legacy, which is being recognized and honored by the Abu Dhabi government.

Administered by Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s esteemed renewable energy company, the Zayed Sustainability Prize aims to perpetuate Sheikh Zayed’s humanitarian values and drive impactful change across diverse sectors.

Prizes

The Zayed Sustainability Prize comes with robust financial commitments. A total prize fund of US $5.9 million is distributed across the following categories:

Health: US $1,000,000
Food: US $1,000,000
Energy: US $1,000,000
Water: US $1,000,000
Climate Action: US $1,000,000
Global High Schools: US $900,000

Across six global regions:

The Americas
Sub-Saharan Africa
Middle East & North Africa
Europe & Central Asia
South Asia, and
East Asia & Pacific

One school in each region stands a chance to win up to US $150,000.

Eligibility Criteria

The Zayed Sustainability Prize focuses on three key pillars: Innovation, Impact, and Inspiration. Prospective Candidates must meet each of the three pillars requirements below:

Innovation: Innovation, constituting 40% of the evaluation, is the engine driving progress.

Awardees must showcase a solution, be it a technology, service, or business model that is not only novel but transformative.
The solution should possess a unique value proposition, disrupt existing norms;
Be both technically and commercially viable.
The market must adopt and embrace these solutions, ruling out early-stage start-ups or unproven prototypes.

Impact: Constituting 30% of the evaluation, impact assesses the tangible difference a solution makes.

Awardees must demonstrate not just positive change but resilience in the face of potential challenges.
Governance is scrutinized, necessitating skilled teams and fair policies.
A detailed plan on utilizing the Prize money to amplify impact further solidifies an organization’s candidacy.

Inspiration: The remaining 30% of the evaluation centers on inspiration. Sheikh Zayed’s legacy, rooted in sustainability and human development, serves as a guiding light.

Awardees must reflect their core values and prove their potential to inspire others.
