About the McCain Global Leaders Programme

The McCain Global Leaders Programme is a prestigious fellowship designed for character-driven leaders worldwide. It draws inspiration from Senator John McCain’s legacy of selfless service and dedication to causes greater than oneself.

The 2024 cohort, themed “Defending Democracy,” aims to address the global challenges posed to democracy, including authoritarianism, disinformation, polarization, violent extremism, and conflict.

Program highlights

  • Summer 2024 – The McCain Leadership Curriculum:
    • Engage in a dynamic curriculum both online and in person.
    • Draw lessons from Senator McCain’s life, emphasizing community building and group problem-solving.
    • Experience a unique peer-mentorship model for mutual support.
  • Fall 2024 – Leadership Experience (Annapolis, M.D. and Washington, D.C.):
    • Participate in a 10-day program at the U.S. Naval Academy and in Washington, D.C.
    • Connect with experts in core thematic areas and key decision-makers.
    • Establish your leadership philosophy and goals with guidance from experienced mentors.
  • Winter 2024/2025 – The Changemaker Tour (Host Country in Each Region):
    • Join a five-day regional study tour in a host country.
    • Explore defending democracy globally and develop targeted regional connections and networks.
    • Encouraged to explore regional collaborations with active support from the McCain Institute.
  • Spring 2025 – The Legacy Experience (Vietnam):
    • Conclude the program with a seven-day trip to Vietnam.
    • Reflect on your leadership journey and its evolution.
    • Explore professional collaborations, outline future steps, and learn about available resources as a program alumnus.
