Applications are open for the TheMuseumsLab 2024 programme. TheMuseumsLab is a collaborative program facilitating joint learning, perspective exchange, networking, and career development among African and European professionals in the museum, heritage, and art sectors.
The initiative aims to foster connections between individuals, institutions, and nations across the two continents. It encourages engaged discussions on how museums can address their past, respond to the present needs of society, and contribute to building an equitable future.
Who Can Apply
African and European museum professionals with a minimum of two years of experience in the museum, heritage, or art sector are eligible to apply.
Funding Coverage
The program offers funding to support participation in the complete 2024 program, covering all associated activities.
Duration of Funding
The funded program activities are scheduled to take place from June 6, 2024, to December 10, 2024.
TheMuseumsLab provides a unique platform for professionals to come together, exchange perspectives, and contribute to the evolution of museums in addressing societal needs and building a more equitable future.
Value of TheMuseumsLab Program
For the onsite phases, the DAAD will cover the following program-related costs:
- International and National Transport: Covers the lowest possible economy class airfare and 2nd class train tickets for travel to and from program locations.
- Local Public Transport: Applicable during Module 2, Module 3, and the Residencies.
- Airport Transfers: Included for Module 3 in Accra and Residencies in Africa, if applicable.
- Visa Fees: Covers visa fees for processes at official entities.
- Health Insurance: Provides reimbursement of up to 40 Euros for health insurance.
- Accommodation: Covers accommodation expenses during the onsite Modules and Residency Locations.
This comprehensive support ensures that participants can focus on their learning and collaboration during the program without being encumbered by logistical or financial concerns related to travel and accommodation.
Requirements for Participation
To be eligible for TheMuseumsLab program, participants must meet the following requirements:
- Currently working in the museum, culture, and art sector.
- Possess a minimum of 2 years of practical experience in a museum, heritage site, or art space. The experience should be related to themes such as Archaeology, Architecture, Art, Cultural History, Natural Sciences, and Technology.
- Demonstrate a commitment to actively participate in the program.
- Have sufficient English skills to engage effectively in the program.
- Must be residing in Africa or Europe at the time of applying.
- Applicants who are alumni of the TheMuseumsLab program cannot be considered for the current application cycle.
