EA Launching Plants vs. Zombies 3

Nearly five years after Electronic Arts (EA) first announced it, the third iteration of the popular mobile game series, Plants vs. Zombies, is on the brink of release. Titled “Plants vs. Zombies 3: Welcome to Zomburbia” (PvZ3), the game has recently entered its soft-launch phase in a select group of countries, including the UK, Netherlands, Australia, Philippines, and Ireland.

Plants vs. Zombies 3 Story and Gameplay

PvZ3, akin to its predecessors, is rooted in the tower defense genre, where players utilize a variety of animated plants to defend against zombie invasions. EA has highlighted that the game will feature both new and returning characters, promising gameplay that echoes the original charm and tactical nature of the first game in the series. While PvZ3 is free to play, EA has retained the inclusion of microtransactions within the game.

The Plants vs. Zombies Franchise

The Plants vs. Zombies franchise first sprouted onto the gaming scene in 2009 with its initial release on PC and Mac. The game’s popularity quickly grew, leading to its expansion onto mobile devices and other platforms. This growth trajectory was further boosted by EA’s acquisition of the game’s developer, PopCap Games, in 2011. The series then branched out with the release of Plants vs. Zombies 2 in 2013, which marked a significant shift in its monetization strategy—from a one-time purchase price of $2.99 to a free-to-play model.

Plants vs. Zombies 3 Availability

EA has revealed that PvZ3 will reportedly become available in more regions and countries of the world “at a later date” while it will collect feedback during the soft launch period.
