The contest is a key aspect of the Burning Heroes Founders Association’s mission to provide equal access to global opportunities for talented startups. All of the association’s activities are collaborative and not-for-profit, aiming to connect entrepreneurs with investors, media, and experts. The first edition of the Burning Heroes Africa Startup Awards in 2023 highlighted the vibrant entrepreneurial landscape on the continent, featuring over 80 startups from across Africa.
A panel of esteemed judges from leading tech companies and venture capital firms like Meta, AWS, Flat6 Labs, Savant, Plug and Play, Katapult, and Starta VC carefully assessed and acknowledged 9 standout startups out of the 30 shortlisted.
The prizes, valued at an estimated $21,000, were distributed as promo codes and exclusive one-on-one meetings with these industry leaders.

The judging panel will use six main categories to determine prize winners.

- Fintech & Insur-tech
- Space & emerging/Hi-tech
- Al for good
- Edtech/Civic tech
