Are you a graduate or an advanced undergraduate student with a passion for conducting research? Are you passionate about the field of tropical biology science? If so, then this opportunity is tailored just for you.
The Ashton Award for Student Research provides funding for graduate and advanced undergraduate students researching Asian tropical forest biology. The award is generously funded by Professor Peter Ashton and his wife Mary Ashton through the Peter and Mary Ashton Training Fund.
Benefit
- Grants of up to $4,000 are provided to assist students in covering their research expenses.
Eligibility Criteria
- The award is open to both graduate students and advanced undergraduates, and it is not restricted to universities within the United States or exclusively available to American citizens.
Selection Criteria
Recipients of the awards will be determined through a competitive evaluation process. The selection will be based on:
- Student’s educational background and preparedness to carry out the research proposal,
- Excellence of the proposed research, and the alignment of the proposed research with the mission of the Arnold Arboretum.
How to apply For the Ashton Award for Student Research 2024
In order to be a part of this award, your online applications should include the following:
- Cover letter
- Research statement: 1 to 2 pages describing the research project and how additional funding from the Ashton Award would support it. Include names of other collaborators and references.
- Research budget: 1-page budget itemizing research and travel costs associated with the proposed project.
- Project timeline: Detailed timeline indicating start and end dates.
- Curriculum vitae
- Two letters of recommendation: Submit a request to two referees, who will receive an email with instructions and a link to upload their letter of recommendation. Contact the referees in advance and inform them to expect an email from Admin@communityforce.com. Recommendation Letters must be uploaded by the referees before February 1st.
