The Women in Technology Incubator, offered by Standard Chartered, is considered Africa’s top program for businesses led and founded by women. It reflects the growing demand for diversity in technology and entrepreneurship, as well as the need for more opportunities for women to excel in entrepreneurial and leadership roles.

Main Focus of the 2024 Standard Chartered Women in Technology Incubator Programme 

This initiative supports the bank’s Sustainability and Community Engagement strategy, with a particular focus on innovation, infrastructure, and technology. The program is a collaborative effort between Standard Chartered Bank Zambia and BongoHive, building on the success of the Women in Tech program in countries such as Kenya, Nigeria, and Bahrain, among others.

  • The incubation program will provide the top six finalists with a $10,000 grant that does not require giving up any equity. This funding is intended to support these finalists in implementing technology solutions within their businesses.
  • Six months of continued support from Standard Chartered, BongoHive, and a network of coaches and mentors for the top six finalists, focusing on go-to-market strategies and scaling up.

Who Can Apply?

They are in search of the most talented female entrepreneurs leading startup teams that utilize digital technology to drive innovation in business.

  • The business must be led by a female entrepreneur from Zambia who is either the founder or co-founder and is over 18 years old. The owner should also hold an equal or majority stake in the business.
  • The business needs to be located and functioning within the borders of Zambia.
  • The business should already be utilizing digital technology or have a clear need to incorporate it in order to facilitate growth.
  • The Business owner must hold Zambian nationality.
  • The business must have been registered with PACRA for a minimum of three months.
  • The Business owner may require assistance with customer, product, and/or business model development.
  • Key individuals within the business, preferably two founders, must be available to participate in a three-month virtual incubation program running from March to May 2024.
  • The Top six winners of the incubation program must be able to attend a six-month acceleration program commencing on June 3rd, 2024. And concluding on December 3rd, 2024.
  • The Prize fund will primarily go towards developing digital technology. With any remaining funds to be utilized within the business.
