Last week, Qualcomm shared some exciting news about running Windows games on its Snapdragon chips. At the 2024 Game Developers Conference, they said Arm could handle these games almost as fast as the usual x86/64 chips. But, how fast is that?

For games like Control and Baldur’s Gate 3, it seems like they aim for around 30 frames per second (fps) at 1080p resolution with medium settings. They might also use AMD’s FSR 1.0 spatial upscaling.

Qualcomm’s Headquarters in San Diego

Some YouTubers, TikTokers, and “Snapdragon Insiders” visited Qualcomm’s headquarters in San Diego for their “eXperience Day.” They made videos showing these games running on Snapdragon chips. While some videos might seem a bit like ads, it’s still cool to see these games on Windows with Arm chips.

One influencer, Enobong Etteh, tried Control, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Redout 2 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. In Control, frame rates went down to 26fps in fights but stayed between 30fps and 40fps while moving around.

Another video by JuanBagnell showed Baldur’s Gate 3 running at 25 to 30fps in the first fight. But, the game might need more CPU power in later parts. In some videos, they mentioned using AMD’s FSR 1.0 for better performance.

What You Should Know About The Demo’s

Remember, these games ran on Qualcomm’s reference design laptops, not final products. They might work better on finished devices!

Battery Life, Specs and Features

We also got a hint about battery life. If the whole laptop uses 20-24 watts, and it has a typical battery, it might last about two hours. Qualcomm says these laptops already support 250 PC games and should have 500 by launch.
