Nothing’s Phone 2A Launch Date

Nothing has announced a launch date of March 5th for its upcoming Phone 2A in a new video released today, confirming that it will be available in the US as part of a “Developer Program” rather than a widespread official release. No specifications, images, or pricing details of the device were revealed in the video. Instead, viewers were informed to await the full announcement next month, during which Nothing will also provide comprehensive details about its developer program. The event is scheduled for 11:30 AM GMT (6:30 AM ET), as confirmed by the company.

The Developer Program approach for the Phone 2A appears similar to the release strategy employed by Nothing for its original Phone 1, which entered the US market as part of a “Beta Membership” initiative where interested customers paid $299 to “test” the device. In contrast, the Phone 2 received a more official US release last year, albeit without direct carrier sales or certification for Verizon compatibility. However, it was fully compatible with T-Mobile and AT&T.

Will the Phone Be a Cheaper Alternative to the Phone 2?

While Nothing hasn’t explicitly confirmed that the Phone 2A will be a more affordable alternative to the Phone 2, it’s strongly implied. In the video, Nothing CEO Carl Pei responded coyly to a leading question about making the phone cheaper, declining to confirm any pricing details.

Amidst the absence of official information about the Phone 2A, rumors have circulated to fill in the gaps. Reports suggest that the phone may cost under €400 in the EU, approximately $430 in the US, and may feature a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 processor.

Phone 2A Design

Regarding the phone’s design, there have been conflicting reports, including one leaked render that was later retracted. A leaked design spotted by Dylan Roussel has emerged as a front-runner, suggesting a simplified Glyph interface with three light strips instead of the 11 found on the Phone 2. The dual cameras may be horizontally oriented in the center of the phone’s back, resembling a pair of eyes, aligning with Nothing’s “See the world through fresh eyes” tagline for the device.

Concept Sketches of the Phone 2A

While the video does not reveal the official design of the phone, it includes concept sketches of the Phone 2A consistent with Roussel’s leak. Although the full launch is scheduled for next month, Nothing will be hosting an event in Barcelona on February 27th to coincide with the Mobile World Congress, likely teasing additional information at that time.
