Applications are currently being accepted for the Meta Llama Impact Grants Program 2023. The program acknowledges the significant potential of AI, particularly in generative AI, to empower individuals and organizations, create economic and social opportunities, and facilitate meaningful connections.
In line with their commitment to open-sourcing, Meta released Llama 2 as an open-source large language model, resulting in a substantial demand from the global developer community.
Meta Llama Impact Grants Program 2023
With a firm belief in providing opportunities worldwide, Meta is now launching the Llama Impact Grants program. This initiative aims to support and promote impactful applications of Llama 2 that contribute to societal betterment. Understanding the intricate nature of global challenges, the program is structured around three distinct tracks:
- Education
- Environment
- Open innovation.
Benefit
- The Llama Impact Grants program has allocated a total of $500,000 in grants to support projects that utilize Llama 2 to tackle major challenges in three specific areas: education, the environment, and open innovation.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this grant program, organizations must fall into one of the following categories:
- Non-profit organizations that operate solely for charitable purposes.
- Academic institutions such as colleges, universities, or other educational institutions that offer degrees can be public, private, or non-profit.
- Research institutions established outside of higher education specifically for conducting research can be public, private, or non-profit.
In addition, each organization must meet the following requirements:
- The organization must not be an individual, sole proprietor, or sole-owner entity in the jurisdiction it is formed.
- It should have been duly formed before October 1, 2022, and be in good standing under the laws of its forming jurisdiction.
- The organization must have the legal right to participate in this grant program without violating any existing agreements or obligations with third parties.
- While non-eligible organizations cannot apply directly or receive grant funds, they can still provide advice and consultation to eligible organizations and share their expertise.
Others are:
- The grant program welcomes organizations from countries where local laws do not prohibit their participation or receiving grants.
- Those who are subject to trade sanctions or export control restrictions by the U.S., EU, United Nations, or UK, or those acting on behalf of such individuals or organizations, as well as those based in Belarus, China, Russia, Ukraine, or any country or region under comprehensive economic or financial sanctions, are not eligible to participate. This includes regions like Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk in Ukraine, as well as Cuba, North Korea, Iran, and Syria, with the possibility of additions or amendments to this list.

To apply, please ensure all applications are submitted through the designated link by November 15, 2023.
Teams whose proposals are chosen as finalists will receive notification in January 2024.
