L’Oréal-UNESCO Young Talents Caribbean for Women in Science Program 2024 (Up to $10,000 Funding)

Established in 2023, the L’Oréal-UNESCO Young Talents Caribbean for Women in Science program is dedicated to promoting the participation of young women in scientific research and careers.

Its primary objective is to recognize and honor exceptional young women researchers in various fields such as life sciences, environmental sciences, material sciences, mathematics, computer science, information sciences, engineering sciences, and technology. The program aims to provide encouragement and support to these talented individuals in their scientific pursuits.

Program Detail

The aim of the program is to recognize the academic excellence and originality of scientific projects carried out by young researchers like doctoral, and post-doctoral students, and early-career scientists in the Caribbean region who are also willing to inspire younger generations. Unfortunately, despite the program’s efforts, it is evident that inequalities and barriers still exist in the academic research world, where only a small proportion of senior academic positions in science are held by women (18%) and only a few women (4%) have been awarded Nobel Prizes in science at a global level.

To provide additional support to women researchers during a crucial phase in their scientific journeys, the L’Oréal Foundation is offering leadership and communication training. This initiative aims to help them advance in their careers, overcome obstacles, and shatter the glass ceiling. The 2024 Award Ceremony is scheduled to take place in San Juan, Puerto Rico on October 25th. The event will be attended by individuals from across the Caribbean region, including representatives from public authorities, UNESCO, scientists, women influencers, academics, intellectuals, opinion leaders, and organizations advocating for gender equality.
