The 2024 Humangle Accountability Fellowship Program is currently accepting applications from suitably qualified candidates. The fellowship  equips young individuals just starting their careers to create self-designed projects related to accountability in the fields of security and humanitarian relief, education, gender-based and sexual violence, and transitional justice.

This fellowship program is administered by the HumAngle Foundation, which holds a competitive application procedure based on merit. The program’s goal is to find outstanding young people who are enthusiastic about professionally carrying out and developing their own projects. Additionally, the program enables fellows develop into future leaders and change-makers.

Humangle Accountability Fellowship Program – Overview

The Humangle Accountability Fellowship is a six-month program, in which candidates (fellows) are selected on the strength of their self-designed projects or proposals. Fellows are expected to show interest in either investigation and storytelling, advocacy at the grassroots, and carrying out ground-breaking research.

Fellows are provided with required  resources, training, and mentorship to develop their project to the implementation stage. However, these self-designed projects or research proposals must fall within the following thematic areas within Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states:

  • Accountability in the security and humanitarian sectors
  • Climate security
  • Education
  • Sexual and gender-based violence
  • Transitional justice

Benefits of Participating in Humangle Fellowship Program

  • Fellows will get monthly training and mentoring from prominent figures in the industry as they start to test the viability of their respective projects in the field.
  • A monthly stipend will be given to fellows to assist their fieldwork and pay for data/communication and transportation.
  • After the fellowship, if fellows so want, they will work at HumAngle as freelancers and are compensated for each publication of their work in that role.
  • Certificates will be given to fellows at the conclusion of the fellowship.
  • Wider professional networks will be made available to fellows so they can achieve their objectives.
  • Every month, fellows will have conversations with exceptional persons who have achieved professional success.
  • HumAngle Foundation will refer fellows to a wide range of opportunities, and outstanding fellows will be invited as facilitators for subsequent cohorts.
  • There is a full-time or part-time role opportunity at HumAngle newsroom for fellows who contribute articles and reports and do so diligently and professionally.

Eligiblity Requirements for Humangle Fellowship Program

  • Candidates must be natives of Adamawa, Yobe, or Borno, and they must complete their duties within the senatorial districts associated with their projects.
  • Candidates have to be between the ages of 22 and 30.
  • Candidates must hold a diploma as a minimum.
  • Candidates must exhibit a professional history and a passion for the subject areas.
  • Candidates must live in the area where they are assigned; if not, they must be prepared to relocate on their own dime.
  • If applicants do not live in the area, they must be acquainted with it.
  • It is highly recommended that women apply for this fellowship.
