Have you heard of the FAO–Hungarian Government Scholarship Programme? The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in partnership with the Hungarian Government, is offering a Masters Scholarship Programme for the 2024–2025 academic year. The scholarship is designed specifically for students from Developing Countries (see country list below).
For the 2024-2025 academic calendar, the following MSc degree courses are offered in English:
- Environmental Engineering at Sopron University, Sopron
- Crop Production Engineering at Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Szent István Campus, Gödöll?
- Horticultural Engineering at Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Buda Campus, Budapest
Benefits of FAO-Hungarian Government Masters Scholarship
The FAO-Hungarian Government Masters Scholarship will cover the following. Please note that the costs are funded by the Hungarian Government, according to the Agreement between FAO and Hungary in 2007.
- The student’s tuition and application fees for the full duration of the program with basic books and notes;
- Provision of Dormitory accommodation;
- Subsistence costs coverage;
- Health insurance.
Note: This scholarship only covers the student costs. Recipient’s family members’ cost of stay during the period of the programme, is not covered.

Eligibility Criteria for FAO/Hungarian Government Masters Scholarship
- Applicants must possess citizenship and residency in one of the eligible countries
- Have Excellent school achievements
- English language proficiency (for courses taught in English)
- Self Motivation is required
- Good health is mandatory
- Age (candidates under 30 are preferred)

How to Apply
- The application process for the FAO–Hungarian Government Scholarship Programme 2024–2025 is smooth.
- Qualified Candidates should submit their application via the specified email at the official FAO website from 15 January to 29 February 2024.

Selection Process
The selection of students will take place in two phases:
Phase 1: Applicants will be pre-screened by FAO after which the applications are transmitted to Hungary’s Ministry of Agriculture. The ministry will then forward the applications to relevant universities of the applicant’s choice.
Phase 2: As part of the admissions process, chosen candidates might be required to complete an oral or written English proficiency test. The participating university will notify each of the selected candidates after conducting an additional round of selections. The Universities alone will choose the students; FAO will not be involved in this process. The Ministry will also notify the chosen pupils.
