The 2024 call for projects from the Elisabeth & Amélie Fund will specifically emphasize school sanitation projects incorporating a hygiene education element.
Programme Details
Establishing and maintaining sanitation and water access infrastructure in schools is crucial for increasing school enrollment and retention, particularly for girls. The projects proposed in this call for proposals will strive to enhance learning environments by prioritizing sanitation and water accessibility. This effort will be complemented by initiatives to educate teachers, students, and parents about water, hygiene, and environmental awareness.
Each project should encompass the following components:
- Provision of latrines: fundamental sanitation, with a preference for the installation of environmentally friendly systems
- Promotion of hand hygiene: ensuring access to water for hand washing or implementing innovative alternative solutions
- Environmentally conscious treatment or purification of toilet waste;
- Educational initiatives to raise awareness about water, hygiene, and environmental conservation, as well as to inform about the long-term maintenance of communal facilities such as latrines.
