The Federal Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), is spearheading the 2024 Charity KPABEP Scholarship Programme.
This scholarship aims to empower and uplift female engineers and technicians in Nigeria, to the end that it creates a skilled cohort to contribute to the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) manufacturing sector. Charity KPABEP Scholarship | Details
The Charity KPABEP Scholarship is a key component of Nigeria’s Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) Phase-out Management Plan (HPMP) Stage III Project. It has an ambitious target to eliminate 17.13 Ozone Depleting Potential (ODP) tonnes of HCFC-22 and aligns with global efforts to combat climate change.
Charity KPABEP Scholarship does not only address environmental concerns but also strives to enhance gender diversity in the RAC manufacturing field. The program secured approval from the Executive Committee (EXCOM) of the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol in December 2022.
Benefits of Charity KPABEP Scholarship Programme
The benefits Include:
- Financial Support: Recipients of the Charity KPABEP Scholarship stand to benefit from a one-time maximum award of USD 4,000. This financial aid is disbursed in tranches to the candidate’s institution, contingent on the successful completion of a comprehensive training and internship program focused on RAC.
- Training and Internship Opportunities: The scholarship offers a unique chance for a training program in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC). Additionally, recipients may embark on a 1 – 3 month internship with a reputable company specializing in RAC, gaining hands-on experience in a real-world setting.
- Membership and Mentorship: Successful applicants receive a free collegiate membership with the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), providing access to a network of mentors in the engineering field.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the KPABEP Scholarship 2024, applicants must:
- Identify as a woman
- Be a Nigerian citizen
- Fall within the required age (below 40 years), at the time of application
- Be enrolled in an accredited Institution (University, Polytechnic, or post-secondary), located in Nigeria
- Be currently enrolled in a FULL-TIME Certificate, Diploma, Bachelor, Master, or Doctoral degree program in Engineering sciences and Technology, or related
- Be rounding up their study (be within the final two years of study)
- Demonstrate a good academic record with no minimum GPA requirement
- Exhibit a record of leadership and engagement in extracurricular activities

Required Documents:
- A 1000-word maximum Letter of Motivation answering key questions related to motivation, accomplishments, leadership, and long-term career plans.
- Letter from sponsor
- Curriculum vitae/resume
- Academic transcripts
- Proof of enrollment in the current semester
- Most recent academic certificate attained
Additional Requirement for Shortlisted Candidates:
- Submission of two reference letters (academic and professional)
- A recommendation on “Reforms needed in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) sector to support HCFCs Phase-out in Nigeria and promote the provisions of the Kigali Amendment” (500 words maximum)
