At the 56th Conference of Ministers of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, which was held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, yesterday, the call was made.

The ministers said that there was an agreement at the end of the meeting that African nations ought to push for changes to the global financial architecture so that it is more “fit for purpose” and better supports the continent’s economic goals.

To guarantee that international financial institutions can support Africa’s interests, the ministers called on the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) to intensify its efforts.

The idea that the ECA ought to collaborate with the African Union and other allies to enhance the prominence of science and technology in Africa was also deliberated.

Furthermore, the continent’s transition to an inclusive green economy with harmonized rules and standards will depend heavily on science and technology.

According to Claver Gatete, executive secretary of ECA, “Building inclusive green economies in Africa is not merely an anecdote, but a pressing imperative that demands our concerted action.”

“In addition, the innovative solutions proposed, and the partnerships forged underscore our resolve to advance economic prosperity for all Africans.”

According to him, the ECA is refocusing its efforts, with an emphasis on expanding awareness of its leadership in the areas of technology, infrastructure, and climate change.

He explained that this will facilitate our ability to assist nations in expediting the execution of Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
