What is YoungEd Africa?

Young Educators for Africa Initiative, often referred to as YoungEd Africa is a non-profit organization with a mission to prepare Africa for the future by empowering young Africans to build successful careers in education.

This organization recognizes the critical role education plays in shaping the future of the African continent and is committed to nurturing the next generation of educators.

YoungEd Africa Fellowships 2024 | Details

The YoungEd Africa Fellowship Programme 2024 initiative seeks to address the skills supply gap required to meet the demands of education in Africa. This program focuses on professional development in the educational sector and aims to achieve this through investments, both financial and non-financial.

For the next cohort, the program operates in collaboration with public-private partnerships to harness the collective strengths of various stakeholders. Meanwhile, the YoungEd Africa Fellowship consists of two primary categories:

  • The YoungEd Scholar Fellowship and
  • The YoungEd Professional Fellowship.

These fellowships provide financial and mentorship support to facilitate study or research in any field of education. By doing so, they aim to equip young African educators with the knowledge and skills needed to drive positive change in education.

Eligibility Criteria for the YoungEd Africa Fellowships 2024

To be eligible for the YoungEd Africa Fellowship 2024, applicants must meet the following criteria:

For YoungEd Scholar Fellowship:

  • Applicants must be African individuals between the ages of 16-30 at the time of application.
  • They should also be interested in or currently studying education-related courses at the undergraduate level.

For YoungEd Professional Fellowship:

  • This category is open to Africans aged between 20-40 years who are passionate about acquiring new skills and knowledge in the educational field.

YoungEd Africa Fellowships – How it works

Below is how the fellowship works:

Step 1. Apply

  • All prospective candidate submits their application for the YoungEd Scholar or Professional Track, after which the YoungEd Africa Team reviews the candidate’s application. A selection letter for subsequent cohorts will then be sent to successfully selected candidates.

Step 2. Get Awarded

  • The Selected candidates will then provide verification documents to help in processing their Awards.
  • The YoungEd Africa Team carries out the final verification of selected candidates and award letters will be sent to selected candidates whose verification was successful

Step 3. Get Funded

  • YoungEd Scholars will receive tuition fee payment (paid to their Institution), While YoungEd Professionals receive funds quarterly, via the YoungEd Virtual Wallets. This means that there are no cash disbursements to personal accounts.

Step 4. Participate and Engage

  • This is the stage where fellows get to participate in their preferred academic or professional development courses. They will also get to engage actively in the YoungEd Fellow Community (round table discussions, webinars, etc) and provide quarterly feedback

Step 5. Graduate and Give Back

  • Upon graduation from the YoungEd Africa Fellowship Program, fellows will be given a YoungEd Fellowship Certificate, if eligible. They are expected to give back via mentorship, volunteering, and active contribution to the growing YoungEd Fellow Community.
