Threads profile can’t be deleted without removing your Instagram account. This means that in order to delete your Threads profile, you will need to completely delete your Instagram account. Instagram is however aware of this and is currently looking into changing that.
Threads Profile Instagram Account
If it is that you are already tired of Threads and you want to delete your account, then you should know that you can’t do that right now unless you plan on deleting your entire Instagram account. Meta however is “looking into” a way for that not to be the case here, as per a post from Instagram chief Adam Mosseri on Thursday.
Meta’s just-launched Twitter competitor, Threads makes use of Instagram’s account system. That in question has the benefit of allowing you to bring over your Instagram username when you reportedly join the app. But that act also ties the apps together in such a way that means you cannot delete your Threads account without deleting your Instagram account, which people may not want to do in the event that they have been posting on Instagram properly for years.
What Instagram’s Chief Message Conveys
Based on the message from Mosseri, it sounds like the company is just considering a way for you to do that in the future to come. But the very feature is not here yet, and Mosseri also did not give a timeline for when we might get to eventually see it.
However, as Mosseri has noted, you can easily hide your Threads profile and content simply by deactivating your Threads account. And to do that, you will have to go to your profile tab, and then tap the two lines icon for settings, tap “Account,” tap on “Deactivate profile,” and then lastly, tap on the “Deactivate Threads profile” button.
That being said, deactivating a Threads profile is a short and temporary action; although deactivating your Threads profile gets to hide your profile, threads, replies, as well as likes, your account in question will be reactivated if you chose to log back in, as per an Instagram support page. You also can choose to delete individual posts or take your account private, Mosseri however notes.
More Features Coming To Threads In The Future
Instagram on Wednesday launched Threads on iOS and Android, and over 30 million people have already signed up for the app, according to Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg. The company however seems to have pushed the app out the door as soon as it could in a bid to capitalize on the chaos going on over at Twitter, and it is still missing major features such as DMs, a following feed, and even hashtags. Mosseri in a separate post however stated that many of the “basics” are on the way but also cautioned that the improvements will “take time.”
