The Student Leaders Program (SLP) is an intensive program focused on developing leadership skills and promoting civic engagement. It specifically targets talented students from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The upcoming program for the year 2024-2025 will revolve around the important themes of Climate Change and Environmental Protection.

Program Details

The Student Leaders Program (SLP) is a comprehensive year-long program divided into three parts: pre-summer, summer, and post-summer, with the most intensive portion occurring during the summer. The summer program itself spans four weeks and is currently planned to take place from June 28 to July 26, 2024. This part of the program will be conducted in person.

After completing the summer program, students will have the opportunity to put their learning into action by implementing their Community Engagement Plans (CEPs). They will also receive ongoing support, training, and networking opportunities, including the chance to join the MEPI Alumni network which boasts a strong community of 2,000 individuals. Also, there may be a competitive follow-on Accelerator Workshop held in the region.

Throughout the program, students will be placed in universities in the United States where they will engage in academic coursework, develop leadership and project management skills, and gain a deeper understanding of civil society and participatory governance processes in both the United States and the MENA region. An essential component of the program involves the development of Community Engagement Plans (CEPs), in which every student is obligated to select a climate change or environmental protection issue or opportunity they wish to tackle within their communities. During the program, students will have the chance to interact with American peers, participate in community service activities, and meet with civil society organizations.
