Through independent research, seminars, networking events, and conversations with fellow journalists, you will enhance your understanding of journalism, the news industry, and your role within it.

During your time in Oxford, you will work on a project that directly impacts you, your career, your newsroom, and the wider media sector, incorporating what you have learned during your fellowship. This programme is designed for working journalists and editors who intend to return to journalism after spending a few months at the institute.

Program Details

They typically admit approximately 30 Journalist Fellows from various countries worldwide each year, each bringing unique insights and extensive experience to the institute. Here are the distinctive aspects of the program:

  • You will be integrated into a cutting-edge institution that actively contributes to shaping crucial media discussions. The Reuters Institute produces informative fact sheets and reports on the primary challenges facing the industry.

Benefits

  • The majority of journalists participating in the program receive full funding. Accepted candidates have their fees covered and receive a monthly stipend of £2,000, which is intended to cover accommodation, food, and general living expenses. Additionally, travel expenses to and from the UK, as well as any visa costs, will be covered. Fellows are expected to abstain from engaging in professional work during the fellowship.

Eligibility Criteria

  • To qualify for our journalist fellowships, candidates should possess a minimum of five years of journalistic experience, or in exceptional cases, demonstrate a comparable level of expertise. Freelancing does not hinder the application process; however, individuals employed in public affairs, public relations, or corporate communications are ineligible to apply.
  • Journalist Fellowships are available to journalists worldwide, including those from Europe, Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, North America, and Latin America.
  • While English language proficiency is not formally assessed, applicants should be capable of understanding and participating in discussions in English.
