The Africa CDC Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Program seeks to assist ambitious African public health leaders in obtaining advanced knowledge and abilities so they may plan, oversee, and direct initiatives that will revolutionize public health in the continent.
Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Program 2024
Upon approval by the Africa CDC Governing Board in March 2018, the African Union Commission inaugurated the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) – Kofi Annan Global Health Leadership Programme on May 25, 2020, in collaboration with the Kofi Annan Foundation.
Senior public health professionals from African Union member states who are accepted into the program as fellows will help design and oversee the implementation of a new public health order for Africa, mentoring and developing the continent’s future generation of public health leaders in the process.
Benefits of the Africa CDC Leadership Program
The program offers an amazing 12-month experience for eligible senior public health professionals to acquire advanced skills in health diplomacy, change management, and policy influence.
Fellows, handpicked from African Union Member States, undergo a high-level professional development journey supported by experienced experts from Africa and the diaspora.
Upon completion, these leaders emerge equipped with:

- A knack for framing bold yet attainable goals, fostering positive health outcomes.

- Africa CDC will cover all fellowship expenses, including airfare, daily allowance, and insurance during the residential assignments, in addition to providing all learning and development materials.
- Fellows will receive assistance in making sure they have the necessary software for online education.
Eligibility Criteria for the Africa’s Needs The CDC Leadership Program
The candidate must be an African Union member state citizen;
- Hold a master’s degree in a public health-related subject;
- Possess ten years of expertise in a professional capacity in any area related to public health, such as medicine, finance, health economics, policy, animal health, or environmental health;
- Applicants should currently be in full-time employment in any area of public health, in a private or public institution in Africa;
- Posses a good track record or shows potential for effective public health leadership where they can positively impact the public health outcomes of populations.

- Recommendation Letters: Two letters of recommendation from reputable professional referees.
- Personal Statement: A concise statement detailing leadership experience, vision for effective public health leadership in Africa, and a commitment to championing public health initiatives.
- Leadership Challenge Proposal: An outline of a potential leadership challenge project feasible within the 12-month fellowship, including title, challenge description, proposed strategy, and expected outcomes.
