Applications for the 2024 World Justice Challenge are now open until January 31, 2024! The Challenge is a robust program encompassing various activities to identify, acknowledge, and promote impactful initiatives safeguarding the rule of law. Its goal is to compile a solid evidence base for successful approaches, elevate their strategic visibility, and build a network of rule of law champions.

World Justice Challenge 2024 Offers USD $20,000 for Rule of Law Initiatives

The 2024 Theme The Rule of Law Foundation of Democracy, demonstrates the importance of effective strategies in fortifying the rule of law to counter autocracy and restore trust in democratic governance. It’s a call to action for initiatives addressing worldwide critical rule of law challenges.

Award Categories

The 2024 edition of the World Justice Challenge will bestow awards in several categories, each addressing a specific aspect of the rule of law and democracy. These categories include:

  • Ensuring lawful electoral processes
  • Building citizen trust in justice institutions
  • Protecting free media
  • Strengthening youth engagement, and
  • A special U.S. Building Trust Prize.

Prize

  • Entries that emerge as winners will each receive a cash prize of USD 20,000.
  • In addition to this cash prize, finalists will be profiled on WJP’s website and social media to promote the visibility of their projects.
  • All finalists will be invited to join the World Justice Challenge Alumni Network for ongoing networking, partnership, and learning opportunities to support their work.

Who Can Apply?

The competition is open to different  organizations worldwide, including:

  • Non-profits
  • Social entrepreneurs
  • Media
  • Government agencies
  • Businesses
  • law firms, and;
  • Academics

Collaboration is encouraged, but each applicant is limited to submitting a maximum of two entries.

Application Process

Applications for the World Justice Challenge 2024, may be submitted in two ways:

Selection Criteria:

Entries will undergo rigorous evaluation based on impact, sustainability, and scaling/replicability.

  • Impact assesses the contribution to addressing the rule of law and democracy problems.
  • Sustainability gauges the potential for long-term operation while
  • scaling/replicability examines the initiative’s potential expansion or replication in various contexts.
  • Out of the applicant pool, the Challenge will select 30 finalists. The final five winners, representing the most promising approaches to strengthening democracy and the rule of law, will be chosen by a committee of experienced judges and a network of previous finalists.
