To further its mission of advancing high-level scientific research in underdeveloped nations, the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) provides talented students with a Postgraduate Diploma Programme that gets them ready for doctoral studies.

ICTP Postgraduate Diploma Programme – Overview

Since the Postgraduate Diploma Programme’s inception in 1991, a large number of its alumni have pursued PhDs in numerous esteemed universities, both in North America and Europe.

Following a few postdoctoral fellowships overseas, a large number of them have returned home and are actively engaged in advanced research group development and teaching. Some have chosen to work as scientists in the world’s top research institutes. Past pupils have kept up active work with ICTP throughout their professional lives.

Benefits of ICTP Postgraduate Diploma Scholarship

  • There is no tuition fee payment for recipients and a travel grant of up to ten (10) scholarships annually for applicants from developing nations.
  • Scholarships and travel allowances will be given to the 10 students from developing nations chosen for each Postgraduate Diploma Programme.
  • There aren’t any course costs. Scholarships will be awarded to students for the full academic year.
  • A small number of eligible applicants who satisfy the same selection standards as everyone else are allowed to pay for their course attendance.
  • To receive funds equivalent to those provided by the Centre, they must provide written confirmation from a banking institution or funding agency that the funds are accessible for their whole year of residence.

Eligibility Requirements for ICTP Postgraduate Diploma Scholarship

Requirements

  • Candidates must be young graduates in physics, mathematics, or related fields.
  • Candidates’ selection is based on their university performance as well as on academic recommendations.
  • Upon Successful course completion (including examinations), participants will work on a dissertation, to be submitted and defended.

Eligibility

  • Candidates for the Postgraduate Diploma Programme must be below 28 years of age;
  • Hail from all countries that are members of the United Nations, UNESCO, or IAEA.
  • Applicants must hold a minimum qualification degree of MSc in physics, mathematics, or related fields.

Selection Process

Selection of Candidates for the ICTP Postgraduate Diploma Programme will be based on their university record and academic recommendations. Also, fluency in speaking and writing English is an essential qualification.

Application Documents

The documents below should be uploaded in addition to completing an online application:

  • University transcript with academic records and university degrees in English
  • Documents showing the student’s ability to follow advanced-level courses, study and write scientific literature in the English language;
  • Two letters of recommendation (from senior scientists familiar with the applicant’s studies and work)
