ICFJ Health Innovation Journalism Fellowship 2024|Call For Applications
Journalists have a crucial role in keeping the public well-informed about the latest advancements in health and medicine. They communicate vital information to audiences worldwide and hold policymakers, officials, and stakeholders accountable for their actions. Particularly in today’s context, it is of utmost importance to provide accurate and high-quality reporting on the opportunities and challenges associated with developing, introducing, and scaling innovations that benefit global health.
To support comprehensive and top-notch journalism on health innovation topics, we have established the Health Innovation Journalism Fellowship. This initiative aims to empower selected fellows with the necessary skills to deliver in-depth and well-researched reporting on the latest developments in health and medicine.
Program Overview
The Health Innovation Journalism Fellowship program is managed and administered by ICFJ and funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Experienced journalists who demonstrate a passion for innovative storytelling in health-related journalism and have a proven record of publishing in major global media outlets are eligible to receive the fellowship. Selected fellows will receive grant funding, training, and individual mentorship to develop and publish their original reporting projects focused on health innovation.
In addition, towards the end of the fellowship, fellows will have the opportunity to participate in fieldwork related to health, science, and technology sectors during an international reporting trip.
Throughout the Health Innovation Journalism Fellowship, each fellow is expected to produce and publish five articles that explore various aspects of health innovation.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Health Innovation Journalism Fellowship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must possess a minimum of four years of journalism experience.
- Demonstrate a strong interest and prior experience in reporting on health-related subjects.
- Possess proficient proficiency in English, as the fellowship activities will be conducted in the English language.
Selection Criteria

- Health Journalism Qualifications – Candidates should possess relevant qualifications and experience in health journalism.
- Prior Publication Quality – The quality of the candidate’s previous publications will be considered.

- Defined Goals for Personal and Professional Growth – Candidates should have clear objectives and aspirations for their personal and professional development.
- Vision for Positive Impact – Candidates should articulate their vision for making a positive impact through their work in health journalism.
- Innovative Story Pitch Idea – Candidates are encouraged to present an original and creative story idea related to health innovation.
