Applications are open for the HZB International Summer Student Programme 2024, from July 1 to August 23, 2024. Every summer, HZB invites 20 undergraduate students to an eight-week programme.
International students can collaborate closely with HZB scientists in fields such as Photon Science, Photovoltaics, Solar Cells/Catalysis, Electrochemical Energy Storage, Quantum and Functional Materials, and Accelerator research.
Who Can Apply?
- Undergraduate students (not PhD candidates) in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Structural Biology, Mathematics, Engineering, Life or Environmental Sciences, or related disciplines.
- Completed at least two years of full-time study in the major discipline at the university level.
- You are enrolled as a student at your university during your stay at HZB from July 1 to August 23, 2024.
- Good knowledge of English; knowledge of German is advantageous.
- Provide a letter of reference with your application.
Conditions
- Duration of stay: July 1 to August 23, 2024.
- Mandatory participation for the entire duration.
- Working time: 40 hours/week.
- 8-week internship contract to work on your project.
Benefits of the Program
- Subsistence allowance: €1,900 gross for external participants, €1,000 gross for students from Berlin and Potsdam universities.
- 75% subsidy for travel expenses up to €200 for EU countries and €800 for non-EU countries.

- Academic CV: Concise, in tabular and chronological form, not exceeding 2 pages.
- Certificate of Enrolment: Valid until the end of August 2024.
- Transcripts and academic degree certificate (if applicable).
- Copy of passport or identity card.
- Letter of reference: From someone familiar with your academic performance.
