Blockchain Games Rated Adults Only To Return To Epic Games’ Marketplace
Blockchain games as you should know are making a return to Epic Games’ marketplace. The Epic Games Store in question has a strict ban on games that are classified as “Adults Only” by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) which normally are games with excessive nudity or violence. But the marketplace just recently announced that blockchain games that are classified as AO simply because they make use of blockchain are an exception to this very rule.
What Epic Has To Say About the New Development?
“Some blockchain-based games are receiving Adults Only (AO) ratings from industry rating bodies for their particular implementation of blockchain,” Epic Games spokesperson Brian Sharon in a statement to The Verge states. “We’ve updated our Epic Games Store content policy to allow for games that are rated AO solely due to the usage of blockchain or NFT technology.” Policies that are prohibiting things such as porn, gambling, and hateful content remain in place, Sharon reveals. (Blockchain games cannot facilitate gambling, Epic states.)
Titles to Return to the Marketplace after the New Development
Gods Unchained and Striker Manager 3, for instance, were recently taken down from Epic’s marketplace due to their 18 and over rating, and simply because of the new policy shift, both games in question have reportedly returned to the store.
Adults Only Is the Most Restrictive Rating of the ESRB
Adults Only is the most restrictive rating of the ESRB, and some stores as you should know don’t sell games that are rated AO at all. Although both Steam and Itch.io enable AO games in their marketplaces, users in question can opt to filter them out. Steam also does not allow blockchain games.
