Acumen West Africa Fellowship

Acumen West Africa Fellowship 2023/2024

Specifically, the West Africa Acumen Fellowship is an intensive program designed to cultivate leadership abilities among exceptional individuals dedicated to tackling poverty-related issues. Through this fellowship, participants gain valuable knowledge, skills, and a supportive community that empowers them to enhance their leadership capacities and expand their initiatives to bring about meaningful transformations in West Africa.

Upon completing the program, Fellow Candidates become members of The Foundry, a community comprising like-minded peers who collaborate across fields and regions to establish a world founded on dignity. This diverse network fosters idea-sharing and facilitates access to crucial resources such as funding, mentoring, and continual learning opportunities. This lifelong support system accompanies individuals on their journey towards effecting social change.

Acumen West Africa Fellowship Curriculum

For more than 17 years, our flagship Fellowship program has been equipping Fellow Candidates with the necessary knowledge, support systems, and skills to lead social change, foster collaboration across diverse backgrounds, and mobilize their communities.

Throughout the 6-month program, Fellow Candidates continue to work in their current jobs while participating in five seminars. These seminars are complemented by online group and individual assignments designed to foster an engaged community. Here is a brief overview of the program structure:

  • One 3-day virtual immersive experience
  • Two 5-day full-time in-person immersive experiences (with 8 hours of pre-work for each immersive, consisting of self-paced learning and group calls)
  • Two 4-week virtual workshops (requiring 3 hours per week of pre-work, including group and individual calls, as well as self-paced learning)

Within their cohort, Fellow Candidates establish trust and experiment with new leadership skills. This cohort-based model cultivates deep bonds that extend far beyond the program duration, enabling Fellows to form peer relationships that prove invaluable throughout their journey towards creating greater impact.

The Fellowship curriculum encompasses various key elements, including:

  • Polarities Management
  • Good Society Reading
  • Adaptive Leadership
  • Authentic Voice
