The YALI-RLC EA/Trevor Noah Foundation Education Change Makers Programme 2024 (Cohort 1) is a groundbreaking initiative designed to empower young leaders in East Africa who are passionate about transforming the educational landscape. This fully-funded program is a collaboration between the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Regional Leadership Center East Africa and the Trevor Noah Foundation, aiming to nurture a new generation of education change makers.

Benefits

If you are selected to take part in the program at the YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa, the program will cover the expenses as mentioned below:

  • Visa expenses to Kenya (if necessary);
  • Round-trip airfare from your country of origin to Nairobi, Kenya;
  • Transport to and from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa for all participants from countries other than Kenya;
  • For Kenyan participants, transportation to and from the YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa will be arranged from your place of residence
  • Personalized academic and leadership training; Health insurance coverage for accidents and illnesses;
  • Accommodation and meals; and • A stipend to cover incidental expenses during your time in Nairobi.

Eligibility Criteria

The selection process for the YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa is based on merit and is open to young leaders from East Africa who meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old throughout the entire 4-week program duration.
  • Citizenship and residency: Applicants must be citizens and residents of one of the following countries: Burundi, Central African Republic, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
  • Applicants must not hold U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Applicants must not be living outside the 14 coverage countries listed above.
  • Applicants must be eligible to receive any necessary visa to travel to Kenya.
  • English proficiency: Applicants must have proficient reading, writing, and speaking skills in English.

Selection Criteria

The evaluation process for applications will involve the use of the following criteria by the selection panels:

  • Demonstrated leadership: Applicants must possess demonstrated leadership qualities in the areas of public service, business and entrepreneurship, or civic engagement.
  • Active engagement: Applicants must have engaged in active public or community service, volunteerism, or mentorship.
  • Ability to work in diverse groups: Applicants must have the ability to work cooperatively within diverse groups and respect the opinions of others.
  • Strong social and communication skills: Applicants must exhibit strong social and communication skills.
  • Positive attitude: Applicants must have a positive attitude and be energetic in their approach.
  • Professional experience and interest: Applicants must have demonstrated knowledge, interest, and professional experience in the sector/track they have selected.
  • Commitment to applying leadership skills: Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to apply the leadership skills and training received for the betterment of their country and/or community after completion of the program.

You will be asked to create an Applicant profile using your mobile phone and then proceed to fill out the application form.
