The World Habitat Awards recognizes outstanding contributions to affordable and adequate housing worldwide. The 2024 edition is now open for entries until midnight on March 3.

World Habitat Awards – Overview
Every year, between January and March, the World Habitat Awards embark on an evaluation journey facilitated by an independent advisory group of housing experts. The process sifts through many projects, shortlisting between eight and twelve finalists that exemplify exceptional efforts in providing or promoting access to adequate housing.
Subsequently, evaluation visits are conducted to up to four shortlisted projects, culminating in recommendations presented to external judges, including the esteemed Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT). This discerning process results in two Gold winners, with the remaining projects achieving Silver or Bronze distinctions.

- The two Gold Award-winning projects, selected from several extraordinary finalists, receive a prize fund of £10,000 each.

- To ensure the celebration is truly global, the World Habitat Awards cover the travel and accommodation costs for one representative from each winning project.
- All award winners, including Bronze and Silver recipients, are invited to join the prestigious World Habitat Award Network. This group comprises former winners and finalists since 1986, fostering a community of like-minded individuals committed to advancing housing solutions globally.
Eligibility Criteria for World Habitat Awards Innovative Solutions
To be considered for the World Habitat Awards, projects must meet the criteria below:
- Projects at the design/prototype/planning stage or completed over ten years ago won’t be considered.
- It’s important to note that the World Habitat Awards do not fund projects; instead, they seek initiatives that:
- Focus on affordable and adequate housing.
- Take proactive measures to address the climate emergency.
- Are either in progress or have been completed in the last ten years.
- Promote diversity, equality, and inclusion.
- Have been designed and/or delivered in close collaboration with residents and the local community.
