We are pleased to inform you that the 2023 edition of the United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalism is now open for professional Journalists around the world. This year, the UN Dag Hammarskjöld fellowship program is open until April 24, 2023.

The Fellowship Program is open to Journalists who fall between the ages of 25 to 35 years and wish to travel to New York to do a report on International affairs during the opening weeks of the 78th edition of the United Nations General Assembly.

Fellows will be provided with travel and furnished accommodations in New York, as well as a per diem allowance.

About United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalism

The Dag Hammarskjöld Fellowship Program for Journalism is open to nationals of developing countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. Participating Journalists are however expected to be current workers of any of the above-listed Media Organizations.

Furthermore, the applicants must show interest in International affairs and a commitment to bear witness of understanding the United Nations to their readers and audiences in their home nations.

Applicants must also be approved by their organizations to visit New York and stay up to 3 months to report from the U.N

Requirements for United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalism

Applicants must meet the following conditions to be eligible for the UN Dag Hammarskjold Journalism fellowship:

  • Must be a native of the mainly developing countries listed above
  • Must be a current resident in and write for media in a developing country.
  • Should be a minimum of 25 years and 35 years maximum
  • Applicants are expected to have a good command of the English language
  • Ideal Candidates should be current professional journalists and employees with print, television, radio or internet media organizations.
  • The Fellowship is open to both full-time and freelance journalists.
  • The Journalists should be approved by the media organizations they work with, to spend up to 3 months in New York reporting from the United Nations.
