Pokémon Scarlet and Violets DLC

After several months of leaving everyone guessing just exactly when Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s two-part DLC would finally get to hit the Nintendo Switch, as the first half of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero finally now has a release date.

During the Pokémon Presents stream today, The Pokémon Company reportedly announced that The Teal Mask, which is the first half of Scarlet and Violet’s major DLC drop, is set to make its debut on September 13th and it will be introducing a host of new gameplay features as well as multiple new pokémon.

A newly released trailer for the DLC details just how players will travel to the land of Kitakami as part of a joint school trip that reportedly coincides with a local festival that is celebrating the Loyal Three which are the Kitakami’s legendary trio, and Ogerpon, which as you should know is a new masked legendary monster.

Details of the Just Released Trailer

The trailer in question also spotlights how The Teal Mask will get to introduce new characters such as photographer Perrin, whose photo-focused side quests will reportedly send players out into the wilderness of Kitakami to snapshots of wild pokémon, and features like the Roto-stick, which will let players to take selfies from wider angles with the built-in camera phones of the game.

The trailer Interestingly also explains just how Kitakami is home to a host of wild pokémon from older generations that cannot be found in Paldea as well as entirely new creatures such as Dipplin, which as you should know is a new Applin evolution that resembles a candy apple while (presumably) still very much being a dragon type.

While the trailer really does not go into detail about how Dipplin can be obtained, it however does make clear that the species in question is a favorite of new trainer Kieran who is one of the many students that you will meet at Blueberry Academy, which will get to take on a larger role in the second half of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC.

The Indigo Disk as you should know will follow trainers as they become exchange students at Blueberry Academy, which is reportedly located somewhere out in the ocean, which in turn is partially submerged beneath the water, and is also home to multiple artificial biomes that is filled with different pokémon species. When players are not exploring, they will be able to take on the BB League of Blueberry Academy which is the school’s battle ranking system as well as its unique quartet of Elite Four trainers.

The Implication of the Trailer

As interesting as it sounds and is to see one of the Elite Four members sending out a newly evolved form of Duraludon and the appearance of what presumably seems to be Paradox forms of Raikou and Cobalion, what is even more promising is the implication of the trailer that some of the Elite Four trials will push your legendary ride pokémon to unlock “latent powers” such as full-on flight.

The feature in question as you should know could get to make Scarlet and Violet play very differently if it were worked into the rest of the game in a future update, and that does seem to be part of the goal of Nintendo with the DLC.
