The screen-sharing feature of WhatsApp is set to leave beta mode. The messaging app has just stated that the feature in question can share a live view of your screen or rather just a specific app. WhatsApp alongside it is also including a new landscape mode for video calls on mobile.

Screen Sharing Feature of WhatsApp

The latest feature of WhatsApp is the ability to share your screen during video calls, which is very much similar to what’s already available via video conferencing services such as Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams. The Meta-owned service in a press release stated that the feature in question is available via the “Share” icon, after which you will then have the option of either sharing your entire screen or just a specific app. There is also a new landscape mode that is coming for video calls on mobile.

How the Feature Will Work

The press release of Meta highlights just how the feature in question can be used for “sharing documents for work, browsing photos with family, planning a vacation or shopping online with friends, or just helping grandparents with tech support.” Its reported release comes as part of a wave of a host of new WhatsApp features this year that have already included video notes as well as polls in the face of competition from messaging apps such as Telegram, Signal, and arguably also Discord.

The Screen-Sharing Feature of WhatsApp Beta Release

The screen-sharing feature of WhatsApp has been gradually and slowly released in beta for a couple of months. WABetaInfo, which is a publication that often spots WhatsApp features just ahead of their official announcement, has prior to this reported on the rollout of the feature in beta versions of WhatsApp’s app on platforms such as Android, iOS, and Windows. And right now the feature is rolling out to all WhatsApp users all over the world across these three platforms, spokesperson Ellie Heatrick reveals to The Verge.

Other Soon-To-Be-Released WhatsApp Features

WhatsApp as well as the new screen-sharing feature, is also including a new landscape interface for video calls on iOS and Android. The service in question calls this a “wider and more immersive viewing and sharing experience.”
