Netflix Announces The Witcher Animated Movie

Season 4 of The Witcher as you just may have known may be far off on the horizon, but there is however still plenty more of Geralt of Rivia in store on Netflix. At the streaming platform’s Geeked Week event today, the streamer reportedly announced The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep. This is an animated movie that reportedly takes place right in the middle of season 1 of the live-action show and it is based on the short story A Little Sacrifice. Doug Cockle, who is the voice actor from The Witcher 3 video game, will reportedly be reprising the role of Geralt.

Netflix’s Official Description of the Animated Movie

And here is the official description of the animated movie:

“Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster hunter, is hired to investigate a series of attacks in a seaside village and finds himself drawn into a centuries-old conflict between humans and merpeople. He must count on friends — old and new — to solve the mystery before the hostilities between the two kingdoms escalate into all-out war.”

The Success of The Witcher Franchise

The live-action Witcher series as you should know first premiered back in 2019, and the success of the series prompted a substantial expansion of the franchise: season 3 reportedly wrapped up in July, while the spinoffs Nightmare of the Wolf as Blood Origin are also on Netflix. The main series in question will however continue on until at least season 5, although a new actor, Liam Hemsworth, will reportedly be taking up the role of Geralt.

When Will the Animated Movie Premiere?

And as for Sirens of the Deep, it is not expected to be on Netflix until late 2024.
