Through the application portal provided below this page, the call for applications for the ISTernship Summer Program 2024 Intake is currently open. Prospective Candidates with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree who meet the requirements and would like to increase their expertise conducting scientific research are urged to apply for the summer isternship program.

ISTernship Summer Program 2024

Students with an interest in fundamental research in the following study areas are invited to apply: biology; computer science; data science & scientific computing; mathematics; physics; neuroscience; chemistry & materials; and multidisciplinary subjects. Those who completed their bachelor’s or master’s degree within a year of the program’s commencement date are also qualified to apply.

ISTernship Summer Program 2024 – Details

Selected applicants have been a part of the ISTernship program since 2013, working closely with faculty members or lab personnel on a brief research project each summer. ISTerns are given an overview of ISTA research and the ISTA Graduate School when they first arrive.

A poster presentation, when ISTerns present their work to peers, instructors, and lab mentors, rounds up the summer program. Please be aware that internships are full-time, performed only in English, face-to-face.

Candidates should select 1-3 professors they would want to collaborate with on the application form. Successful candidates agree on a research proposal with the professor after being chosen. Please visit this page to view the research topics that are available for the 2024 intake.

Benefits of Isternship Program

  • Where necessary, assistance with making travel and visa arrangements is provided to successful applicants.
  • Each accepted applicant is compensated to help with living expenses in Austria as well as round-trip airfare.
  • Financial Assistance: ISTerns are paid a monthly stipend. The Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research, or OeAD, collaborates in the development of the ISTernship program. Scholarship payments are handled by OeAD from May 15 to September 15.
  • Health Insurance: Since Austria has a legally mandated social security system, you will be covered by health insurance from the moment you begin your ISTA internship program.
  • Housing: On campus, ISTerns will have access to affordable housing (in the flats owned and managed by ISTA).

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applications are accepted from Applicants of any country.
  • Prospective Candidates must be enrolled Bachelor- or Master of Science students in good standing at a degree-granting institution.
  • Applicants must have completed a minimum of the fourth semester of their bachelor’s studies before the respective start date.
  • Graduates of bachelor’s or master’s degree within a year from the program start date, are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants cannot be students who have been admitted to or are enrolled in a PhD program.
  • The ISTA and Russia’s short-term mobility programs have all been put on hold. Therefore, the ISTernship call is not open to applicants who are enrolled in Russian universities at this time.

Application Deadline:
