I find this surprisingly nice. When was the last time you visited the Chrome Web Store? Have you genuinely explored the site, browsing around instead of just downloading the extension you need?
Now, it could be genuinely worthwhile. Google maintained a curiously outdated appearance for the store for years, but the company has finally redesigned it to align with its Material You design language. Although previewed in September, the change is now live for everyone.
Google Revamped the Chrome Web Store
The store’s new design, the go-to destination for sprucing up your Chrome browser with Themes and enhancing functionality with extensions, is highly user-friendly and sleek. It features a search box in the top right corner and a tab allowing you to select either the “Discover” homepage or directly browse for extensions and themes.
The Discover page shows things like top categories, editors’ picks, suggestions based on your previous downloads, and currently trending categories such as AI-powered extensions and dark mode-related add-ons.
You can filter the categories by selecting only those featured by Google or those created by established publishers. Additionally, you can sort the extensions by most relevant or highest rated (unfortunately, themes cannot be sorted in the same way).
