The Clark-Alonso Africa Scholarship at Florida International University (FIU) offers a $1,000 annual award to graduate students in the Department of Politics and International Relations. To be considered for this award, applicants must have produced a published paper or presented at a conference in sub-Saharan Africa in the previous calendar year.
The selection process involves a faculty panel, and the award is presented at the Department’s annual Welcome Back Grads event in the early Fall semester.

Financial Support: The graduate student in the Department who writes the finest published paper (or conference paper) on the politics or international relations of sub-Saharan Africa is awarded $1,000 per year by FIU’s Clark-Alonso Africa Scholarship 2024.
Eligibility Criteria for Clark-Alonso Africa Scholarship
Candidates must meet the requirements below to be considered for the Clark-Alonso Africa Scholarship award:
- The prospective Candidates must be students who are currently enrolled at Florida International University (FIU), and;
- Enrolled in an eligible graduate degree program in International Relations or Political Science in the School of International and Public Affairs.
- Applicants must have produced a published paper or presented at a conference on sub-Saharan Africa in the previous calendar year.
- In addition, the paper must have been published, accepted for publication, or presented at a conference during the previous calendar year.

The selection process for Clark-Alonso Africa Scholarship
- The selection process for Clark-Alonso Africa Scholarship 2024 at Florida International University (FIU), is managed by a three (3) person faculty panel.
- The three-person faculty panel is vested with the responsibility of reviewing applications and also determining who the scholarship winner is
- However, there are exceptional cases where the panel may announce joint winners (in which case the scholarship funds will be divided between the two winners).
- As mentioned earlier, the announcement of the award will be held at the Department’s annual Welcome Back Grads event (early in the Fall semester).
