The Embassy of Canada in Algeria is pleased to announce the opening of its annual call for proposals for the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).

The CFLI is an initiative aimed at assisting impactful projects in developing nations that align with Canada’s Department of Global Affairs’ thematic priorities. It focuses on projects predominantly created by local partners and is chosen and endorsed by the respective Canadian embassy or high commission. Additionally, the CFLI helps foster bilateral relations between Canada and recipient countries, promoting connection and assisting local initiatives.

Thematic priorities

All projects must align with at least one of the CFLI’s main thematic priorities, which include:

  • Promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls.
  • Ensuring inclusive growth, including advocating for women’s economic rights, facilitating access to quality employment and entrepreneurship opportunities, investing in the most vulnerable populations, and sustaining economic progress.
  • Prioritizing environmental sustainability and taking action against climate change, with an emphasis on both adaptation and mitigation efforts, as well as effective water management.
  • Projects related to the following themes may also be considered: – Fostering inclusive governance, encompassing diversity, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. – Addressing peace and security issues, placing particular emphasis on conflict prevention and peacebuilding. – Upholding human dignity, encompassing aspects such as health, education, and nutrition.

Benefit

On average, the CFLI provides a contribution of CAN$31,000 for eligible projects. However, the maximum amount allocated for a project under the CFLI is CAN$100,000.

Eligibility Criteria

Organizations that meet the following criteria are considered eligible recipients:

  • Local non-governmental organizations, community groups, and non-profit organizations.
  • Local educational institutions engaged in local projects.
  • Non-governmental organizations with an international focus on local development initiatives.”
  • International, intergovernmental, multilateral, and regional institutions, organizations, and bodies involved in local development activities.
  • Government institutions or bodies at the municipal, regional, or national level in the recipient country working on local projects.
  • Canadian non-governmental and non-profit organizations contributing to local development efforts.

Submission Of An Application

  • The completion of all projects is required within the timeframe between the signing of the contribution agreement and February 28, 2025.
  • The submission deadline is set for June 7, 2024, at 23:59 (GMT+X).
  • Any applications submitted after this deadline will not be taken into consideration.
  • All proposals need to be electronically submitted to the designated email address found on the official website.
  • Only proposals that employ the provided application form and include the necessary budgetary documentation will be reviewed.
  • Proposals should be composed in either English or French.
  • Project proposals must diligently address all questions found in the CFLI project application form, including the mandatory gender analysis. The project’s budget should provide a comprehensive summary of the proposed activities and their respective costs.
