Apple is rumored to launch AirPods with USB-charging cases along with the iPhone 15. Several rumors making the rounds now suggest that a USB-C upgrade is coming to AirPods at the very same time as the iPhone 15 launch in the month of September 2023.
Apple AirPods USB-Charging Cases
We have been hearing for many months now that Apple’s best wireless earbuds, which as you should know are the AirPods Pro 2 in our humble opinion, will reportedly be getting a USB-C charging case this very year. But new rumors in question suggest that not only will we get to see that AirPods update at the same event as the iPhone 15 launch, but that the ordinary AirPods on the other hand may just be getting the same upgrade too.
Adding USB-C to the best AirPods as you should have known is part of the ongoing embrace of USB-C by Apple, which helps to deliver faster data transfer as well as charging than the aging Lightning port that was first introduced in the iPhone 5.
Several leaks all show that USB-C AirPods are currently in development, but so far they have stated that the upgrade is for the Pro version. However, a post made by Bloomberg’s well-connected Apple reporter Mark Gurman however suggests that the AirPods 3 are getting the very same upgrade.
When Will AirPods 3 Get USB-C?
Almost certainly. But the question here isn’t whether they will, but however, when they will. And based on the latest post from Gurman, the Apple tipster has suggested that the when could be within the next two weeks at its reported and anticipated September 12 event.
It could just be poor wording on the part of Gurman. But as you already know he is an established Apple reporter and thus does not tend to make that very kind of mistake. So when he gets to post “to match the new iPhones, Apple will introduce updated AirPods at the event that include a USB-C charging port” without making any specifications to the AirPods Pro 2, it does get to suggest that the same upgrade is coming to the more affordable AirPods of Apple as well.
Is It True That The AirPods 3 Are Getting USB-C?
Gurman just so you don’t know didn’t go into any more additional detail so if it that is indeed true that the AirPods 3 are getting USB-C, it is still unclear as to whether they are getting any more upgrades. And given that they actually came out in 2001, you would think that if they are getting a late-2023 update then there just might be more here than just a differently-shaped charging connector. But if that’s the case, no pun intended, then we would expect more details to reportedly leak between now and the much anticipated Apple event.
