ADB-IEA Innovative Policy Research Award 2024
ADB-IEA Innovative Policy Research Award aims to promote the use of innovative empirical research in economics to support evidence-based policies that address key development challenges in Asia and the Pacific.
Research papers should provide empirical evidence that contributes to the advancement of global and regional public goods in areas relevant to ADB’s operational priorities. These priorities include:
- Addressing poverty and reducing inequalities.
- Advancing gender equality.
- Combating climate change, enhancing climate and disaster resilience, and promoting environmental sustainability.
- Improving the livability of cities.
- Promoting rural development and food security.
- Strengthening governance and institutional capacity.
- Encouraging regional cooperation and integration.
Award
- The recipient of the prize-winning paper will be granted $7,000, which will be funded by ADB. If there are multiple authors of the winning paper, the award will be shared equally among them.
- The three highest-scoring papers will be showcased at the 2024 ADB Annual Meeting’s ADB-IEA Award session. ADB plans to integrate the proposals generated by the prize-winning paper into its policies and operations.
Eligibility Criteria
Submissions must conform to the following eligibility criteria:
- The research paper should present original work in the field of economics, providing evidence for improved solutions or policies to address a significant development challenge in Asia and the Pacific.
- The paper must not have been published previously, nor be under consideration by any peer-reviewed journals.
- The researcher must be willing to collaborate with policymakers in an ADB-developing member country to further test and refine the research into viable policy solutions.
- Researchers from any country are welcome to submit their work, as long as the proposed policy solutions are relevant to an ADB-developing member country.
- Young and female scholars and researchers from universities think tanks, and academic institutions are particularly encouraged to participate.
Selection criteria
- The degree to which the problem aligns with current regional issues or challenges (25%)
- The quality of the methodology and analysis employed (25%)
- The organization and presentation of the submission (25%)
- The practicality and usefulness of the research findings (25%)
Submission process
- Submissions must be made by 31 December 2023. They anticipate finalizing the selection of the award-winning paper by the end of February 2024. The announcement of the winning paper will occur in early April 2024.
