ACU Early Career Conference Grants – Supporting Emerging Researchers 2024 (£2,000 Grant)

The Early Career Conference Grants aim to guarantee that upcoming researchers, as well as the universities that employ them, can take advantage of the valuable opportunity to attend and participate in in-person conferences in Commonwealth countries.

ACU Early Career Conference Grants

Participating in conferences can have a significant influence on the teaching and research of up-and-coming academics. These gatherings provide opportunities to present research, gain insights into the latest advancements in their field, and establish important professional connections.

Benefits

Grants have a limit of GBP 2,000 and can be used for:

  • ​Conference registration fee
  • Flights
  • Accommodation
  • Visa costs
  • Travel and health insurance

Eligibility Requirement

  • Open to Applicants who are in the early stages of their research or academic career at a university that is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).
  • Applicants should have started their academic career within the past 7 years, but exceptions can be made for those who have taken breaks from employment, such as parental leave.
  • They should have a specific conference in mind that they wish to attend, which will be held in a Commonwealth country between August 2024 and February 2025.

Applicants are not eligible if they:

  • have previously traveled for work, including attending conferences outside of their region of employment since the beginning of their academic career.
  • have received the ACU Early Career Conference Grant (also known as the Early Career Academic Grant) in the past.

How To Apply For ACU Early Career Conference Grants 2024

  • To apply, you can use the online application form.
  • If you don’t have a MyACU account yet, make sure to register for one first by following the registration process provided. Once registered, you can log in to the system and access the application form when applications are open.
  • In the application form, candidates will be required to provide certain information, including:
  • Information about the conference they have chosen, along with a copy of the abstract.
  • An explanation for why they have chosen that specific conference and how it aligns with their research interests.
  • An explanation for how attending the conference will help in their career growth and professional development.
  • An explanation of how they intend to disseminate the knowledge acquired through their participation in the conference.
  • Select the Sustainable Development Goal(s) that align most closely with their research and elaborate on how their research can make a meaningful contribution towards achieving these identified goals.
  • Applicants must provide a comprehensive letter or email of endorsement from their department head, explaining the suitability of the conference and the potential benefits of their participation.
  • Provide a detailed breakdown of the expenses for which they are seeking funding.

successful applicants will be obligated to submit a report outlining how they use the grant they received.
