Applications are currently ongoing for the Youth in Tourism Innovation Challenge 2024. This is a unique opportunity for creative young people in the travel and tourism industry in Africa.
They can use this platform to showcase their projects to the global market and seek the necessary support for their initiatives, including funding, partnerships, and mentorship opportunities.
Benefits
- The winner will receive a grant of $1000.00.
- The 1st and 2nd runners-up will receive a grant of $500.00 each.
- Short courses provided by UNWTO are complimentary for all participants.
- Participants will have access to mentorship, partnership opportunities, potential funding support, and career opportunities.
- Access to an established network of African youth in Tourism Mentors and Innovators is also included as part of the opportunity.
Eligibility Criteria
Please ensure the following are communicated to prevent disqualification:
- Clearly outline the vision, uniqueness, authenticity, and rationale of your project.
- Provide evidence of innovation in addressing challenges within the travel and tourism industry or related sectors in Africa during the COVID-19 era and beyond. This may include technological, social entrepreneurship, educational, youth empowerment, job creation, environmental sustainability, or community development efforts.
- Demonstrate the sustainability of the project’s impact on travel and tourism, local communities, and/or related industries.
- Present a timeline for the project, including key milestones and implementation stages.
- Specify the type of support required, such as funding, investors, mentorship, partnerships, etc.
- Conclude with any additional but relevant information within a maximum of 500 words.
- Competitors must be prepared to showcase a demo of their Minimum Viable Product (MVP) during the presentation, with a maximum duration of 5 minutes.
- The age limit for participants is 35 years.
Timeline
- Challenge commences November 1st, 2023.
- Deadline for submission: March 1st, 2024.
- Adjudicators will select the Top 5: March 22nd, 2024.
- Shortlisted project promoters will be notified: on March 29th, 2024.
- Mentorship for elevator pitches (12 hours): April 10th – May 16th, 2024.
- Shortlisted project promoters must submit a 5-minute presentation at the Summit: on May 15th, 2024.
- Announcement of the Top 3: May 31st, 2024.
- Winners and Runners-up will be announced at the ATLF Awards in Gaborone, Botswana, in October 2024.
