Skull Island: Rise of Kong Causing Outrage

Skull Island: Rise of Kong is getting some significant backlash online after players reportedly stumbled across some PS1-esque quality in-game footage.

The upcoming action-adventure game gets to see players take on the mantle of King Kong as he reportedly goes on the warpath to avenge his fallen parents and then kill the alpha predator, Gaw. This single-player title in question is available in the latter parts of today (October 17) for just $39.99 / £34.99 on the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, as well as PC.

Publisher GameMill Entertainment has reportedly described Skull Island: Rise of Kongon its Steam page as an “exhilarating, third-person action-adventure game… which allows you to experience the origins of the orphaned Kong as he metamorphosizes from a young Kong to the fully mature King of Skull Island.”

Players and Fans Reaction to the News

The general consensus, unfortunately, does not seem to reflect this positive sentiment. Several players have now voiced their protest on X (formerly known as Twitter) concerning the style as well as the graphics of the upcoming King Kong title.

Several of the Tweets in question have poked fun at the extremely low-quality graphics that would perfectly fit better in a PS1 game, and not something that is available on the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. One Twitter user in question complains that “King Kong deserves better than whatever this is supposed to be.”

Fans of the Game Will Have To Wait a Long Time for a Good King Kong Game

Sadly, fans of the game in general may just have to wait quite a long time for a good King Kong game, as the previous title was reportedly released 18 years ago. This was Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie, which reportedly came out in the year 2005.

Is The Game Worth It?

And in this situation, only time will tell regarding how well Skull Island: Rise of Kong is received or if it however does succeed in proving the naysayers wrong. However, if it is that you are unsure as to whether the game in question is worth its steep price tag at the moment, it may just be a good idea to have to wait a while longer and then check out some reviews first.
