PlayStation Acquires Jade Raymond’s Haven Studios

PlayStation Acquires Jade Raymond’s Haven Studios is not shocking news to many. The buying spree of PlayStation continues as Sony just announced the Acquisition of Haven Entertainment studios.

The Studio Haven was founded in 2021 by Veteran Jade Raymond. While a lot of people are aware of Raymond from her time working with Ubisoft working on the “Assassin’s Creed” series, the interesting fact about this acquisition is that Haven studios are yet to make a game.

That did not dissuade Sony from purchasing Haven Studios, however, as the head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, stated on the PlayStation Blog Today. For most of us, the writing was already on the wall even before the acquisition was announced, as Haven and PlayStation have been working closely with each other since the Studio’s inception. As a matter of fact, Raymond announced the Studios founding in a PlayStation Blog post last year. This is also where she confirmed that the studio has Sony’s financial backing and would be working on a new IP for PlayStation consoles. It looks like it was only a matter of time before Sony decided to pull the trigger on an acquisition.

Another Developer for the PlayStation Studios Portfolio

While this announcement might not hit most as a shock, it seems really interesting for one reason: we are learning more about what Haven Studios is building for PlayStation. Although today’s announcements consist mostly of Statements from Raymond and Hulst, Raymond does divulge some details concerning this game Haven is working on.

“we’ve made some interesting progress in quite a short while thanks to our talented, passionate team and their exceptional contributions,” Raymond writes. “We established a culture at Heaven grounded in kindness, adaptability, and courage that unlocks experience with a vision to build a systemic and evolving world focused on freedom, thrill, and Playfulness that would keep the players well engaged and entertained for years to come.

Verdict

That is everything that we have gotten at the moment, but considering the announcement of Haven’s founding happened one year ago in this month, also, we can safely assume that this mystery game is not even close to being finished. At most, Haven Studios have been working on these titles for over a year, and since Raymond characterizes it as a “AAA” multiplayer experience,” it probably would require more time in the oven.
