Nvidia, already a major player in the tech industry, seems poised to strengthen its position with the introduction of its new Blackwell B200 GPU and GB200 “superchip.” These innovations aim to push the boundaries of AI computing, potentially surpassing competitors like Alphabet and Amazon.

The B200 GPU boasts impressive performance, offering up to 20 petaflops of FP4 horsepower from its 208 billion transistors. Nvidia claims that when combined with a Grace CPU in the GB200 superchip, it can achieve 30 times the performance for LLM inference workloads while significantly reducing cost and energy consumption compared to its predecessor, the H100.

In practical terms, training a 1.8 trillion parameter model, which previously required 8,000 Hopper GPUs and 15 megawatts of power, can now be accomplished with just 2,000 Blackwell GPUs consuming only four megawatts.

In benchmark tests, the GB200 demonstrates remarkable performance gains over the H100, with seven times the performance on a GPT-3 LLM benchmark and four times the training speed.

Key Improvements with This GPU

Key improvements include a second-gen transformer engine that doubles compute, bandwidth, and model size, as well as a next-gen NVLink switch allowing for enhanced communication between GPUs.

To meet the demand for large-scale AI computing, Nvidia offers configurations like the GB200 NVL72, housing 72 GPUs and 36 CPUs in a single liquid-cooled rack, capable of delivering up to 720 petaflops of AI training performance or 1.4 exaflops of inference.

Major cloud service providers such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Oracle are reportedly planning to incorporate NVL72 racks into their offerings, indicating strong industry interest in Nvidia’s latest advancements.

Nvidia Also Provides Comprehensive Solutions

Nvidia also provides comprehensive solutions like the DGX Superpod for DGX GB200, which combines multiple systems for even greater computing power, boasting 288 CPUs, 576 GPUs, and 240TB of memory.

With scalability to tens of thousands of GB200 superchips and advanced networking capabilities, Nvidia is positioning itself as a leader in AI computing infrastructure.
